Privacy Policy
How we collect, use and protect your personal information under POPIA.
1. Introduction
AC Generators ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect through acgenerators.co.za, why we collect it, who we share it with and what rights you have.
We process personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 ("POPIA"). For the purposes of POPIA we are the responsible party for the information described here.
2. Information Officer
Our Information Officer can be reached at:
- Email: sales@acgenerators.co.za
- Telephone: 011 749 3086
- Post: The Information Officer, AC Generators, 80 De Beer Street, Alrode South, Johannesburg, 1451
3. What we collect
When you request a quote or contact us, we collect what you enter on the form: your name and surname, company name, email address, telephone number, whether you need delivery, the delivery address where you ask for delivery, the parts and quantities you are asking about, and any notes you add.
When you email, phone or WhatsApp us, we collect the contact details you use and the content of your message.
When you browse the site, our analytics provider collects technical information such as your approximate location (usually city level), device and browser type, the pages you view, how you arrived at the site and how long you stay. This is used in aggregate and we do not use it to identify you by name.
We do not collect payment card details on this website, because no payment is taken here. We do not knowingly collect special personal information, and you should not send us any.
4. Why we process it, and on what basis
- To prepare and send your quotation, and to answer your enquiry. Without this information we cannot quote. Processing is necessary to take steps at your request before entering a contract.
- To supply goods you order and to support them afterwards, including delivery, invoicing and warranty claims. Processing is necessary to perform our contract with you.
- To keep records required of us, for example tax and accounting records. Processing is necessary to meet a legal obligation.
- To understand how the site is used and to improve it. This is in our legitimate interest in running a useful website, balanced against your privacy.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
5. Who we share it with
We share personal information only where we need to:
- Our quotation system. Quote and contact requests sent from this website are delivered into the quotation system we use to handle customer requests, which is hosted and operated on our behalf by our appointed service provider under an obligation of confidentiality.
- Our hosting and email providers, who store the site and carry our email.
- Google Analytics, which provides the usage statistics described in clause 3 and clause 8.
- Suppliers and couriers, where this is needed to source or deliver what you have asked for. A courier is given only what it needs to deliver, such as a name, address and telephone number.
- Professional advisers, or an authority, where the law requires it or where we need to establish or defend a legal claim.
6. Information sent outside South Africa
Some of the providers above, including Google Analytics, process information on servers outside South Africa. Where that happens, we take reasonable steps to satisfy ourselves that the recipient is subject to laws, binding rules or contract terms that give your information a level of protection comparable to POPIA.
7. How long we keep it
We keep quote and enquiry records for as long as we need them for the purpose they were collected, and after that for as long as the law requires us to keep them — for tax and accounting records in South Africa, generally five years. Analytics data is retained on the terms set by our analytics provider. When information is no longer needed we delete it or de-identify it.
8. Cookies and similar technologies
This site uses a small number of cookies and browser storage:
- Google Analytics (GA4) sets cookies that let us count visits and see which pages are used. They do not tell us your name.
- Your quote list is kept in your own browser's local storage so the parts you add are still there when you come back. It stays on your device and is only sent to us if you submit the quote form.
We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics using Google's browser add-on. Blocking cookies will not stop you using the site, though your quote list may not survive a refresh.
9. Security
The site is served over an encrypted connection, and form submissions are sent encrypted. We restrict access to quote records to the people who need it to do their work. No system can be guaranteed secure, but we take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, and we will notify you and the Information Regulator of a compromise where POPIA requires it.
10. Your rights
Under POPIA you have the right to:
- ask what personal information we hold about you, and to be given a copy;
- ask us to correct or update information that is wrong or incomplete;
- ask us to delete information we no longer have a lawful reason to keep;
- object to processing we carry out on the basis of legitimate interest;
- withdraw consent, where we relied on your consent, without affecting processing already carried out;
- complain to the Information Regulator.
To exercise any of these, contact our Information Officer using the details in clause 2. We may need to verify who you are before we act. We will respond within a reasonable time.
11. The Information Regulator
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your personal information you may lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa). Current contact details are published on the Regulator's website at inforegulator.org.za.
12. Children
This is a business-to-business website and is not aimed at children. We do not knowingly collect information about anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our practices or the law change. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last changed, and the current version always appears here.
14. Contact us
